HR Generalist and Safety Consultant

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive HR Generalist and Safety Consultant to join our team and to support the CEO with HR projects for company clients, work with the current team and grow our HR Consulting services, and to support the Operations and Project Manager, as well as the Training and Compliance Manager, as required where HR and Safety cross over various types of workplaces.

We are also looking for someone passionate about making a positive impact in safety and the lives of others working within various types of workplaces and jobsites. A deep understanding of the OHSA, and regulations for compliance is required.

As an HR Generalist and Safety Consultant with our company, you will play a key role in managing day-to-day HR project deliverables for our clients. You will support various HR functions, including employee relations, training and development, policies and procedures, sensitive HR issues and compliance projects.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding and experience of HR practices as well as teach our HR and Safety training programs in person and virtually.  Updating, administering our eLearning programs as well as growing the reach to grow participant attendees – registrants. 

Direction and training on our platform are provided as with all key responsibilities and company software programs. You will also leverage your expertise in safety regulations, hands-on experience in the construction field, and consulting knowledge to ensure our clients and their employees are aware of how to work safely to mitigate workplace injury and illnesses.  Adherence to the highest safety and HR standards.

This role requires someone who can effectively communicate safety protocols and engage teams at all learning levels.

Responsibilities

  • Manage employer-employee relations, ensuring our client issues are addressed promptly, fairly within policy and procedure and applicable Ministry or regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures, employee handbooks, letters, agreements and contracts, documents and forms.
  • Ensure compliance with all labor laws and company policies, advising our client managers or owners on necessary updates and options.
  • Facilitate performance management processes, including assessment evaluations forms, employee development plans,
  • Maintain accurate HR records and prepare reports as needed.
  • Maintain current client professional relationships.
  • Build new clients alongside our established team. This is accomplished through networking, follow up to inquiries and taking the lead to seek out and pitch our HR, safety and accounting services to potential “right mutual fit” companies and management.
  • Prepare, deliver, follow up and help with necessary updates to our HR and Safety training programs.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives to foster a positive, inclusive workplace cultures.
  • Develop and conduct comprehensive safety training programs and implement safety policies and procedures that align with industry standards and best practices, including OSHA. 
  • Consistently, deliver our CPO approved programs including working at heights and JHSC Part 1 and 2
  • Hazard identification and controls, and equipment safety for workplaces, residential and general commercial construction projects.
  • Provide hands-on training in a variety of safety-related areas, including safe operation of machinery, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) use, and emergency response.
  • Providing virtual and on-site safety consulting and guidance to clients; managers, and JHSC members and ensuring compliance with local, provincial and federal regulations across Canada.  We also have clients based in the USA that are expected to grow.
  • Conduct safety audits, gap analysis, inspections on job sites and in workplaces to prepare a report that identifies potential hazards and provide options and recommend corrective actions.
  • Stay current on industry safety trends, regulations, and best practices, integrating them into training programs and safety protocols.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed reports on training sessions, safety audits, incidents, and recommendations.
  • Learn and maintain accurate safety records, documents and scheduling within our company software and CRM programs.
  • Act as a point of contact for safety-related concerns, offering support and solutions from knowledge skill and research.
  • Promote a culture of safety within organizations through proactive communication, engagement, and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience as an HR Generalist or in a similar HR role.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety consulting, training, for various business sectors; construction safety in particular.
  • Strong knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Proficiency with software and systems (e.g., HRIS).
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards, construction safety regulations, and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience working in construction environments, tools and delivering practical, on-site and virtual safety training.
  • Certification in safety-related programs such as OSHA 500, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and instruct a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address safety issues proactively.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and handle sensitive matters with discretion.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on solutions and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites as needed, a company vehicle is available for travel to and from client locations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HR certification (CHRP, CHRL or equivalent recognized accreditation).
  • Experience with employee training and development programs.
  • Familiarity with DEI initiatives and programs.
  • Developing human resources and health and safety manuals.
  • Job site and workplace inspections and reports.
  • Conducting third party investigations and reports.
  • Client and employee relations.
  • Accountable and adaptable to working with various types of business
  • Construction safety knowledge and experience, and certification is an asset.
  • Must have intermediate to high level computer and overall technical skills.
  • Work independently and within a team.
  • Work in office, client’s place of business or other professional environments for meetings and training etc.
  • Experience with implementing HR and Safety Programs.
  • Driver’s licence class G in good standing.
  • Understands and follows PPE requirements.

  • Experience in safety consulting for multiple industries including (construction, manufacturing, trades etc.).
  • English fluency.
  • Bilingual (French/Spanish/Mandarin) skills are all a plus.
  • Experience with developing and implementing safety management systems (SMS) and risk assessments.
