Overview
Overhead cranes are a very common piece of equipment used in the workplace to lift, carry and move many materials where completing the task by hand may not be possible or practicable. With overhead cranes being so common in the workplace, it is important that we are familiar with how to operate them safely. While these cranes seem simple to use, using them incorrectly can come with serious consequences.
What You’ll Learn
The goal of this program is to understand the concepts surrounding the safe operation of cranes and associated rigging. In addition:
- Becoming familiar with the legal requirements.
- Learning the basics of hazard identification and control.
- Familiarization of the basic anatomy of various cranes and rigging.
- Familiarization with planning for a load and rigging it properly.
- Learning the proper means to lift, move and lower loads safely.
- Understanding the challenges that come with crane and rigging operation, such as critical lifts.

How is this program taught?
This program is taught using an interactive discussion method. This means that all participants will be involved in discussing the content throughout the duration of the program. This method ensures that all participants receive and understand the information.
Are there accommodations for learning disabilities?
Participants that may have a learning disability or other impairment, such as language, literacy hearing, or vision, will be accommodated. This may involve having the questions read to the participant(s) by the instructor, the assistance of an interpreter supplied by the employer, or other means.
